CHILDREN'S AUDITIONS FOR THE NUTCRACKER, SACRAMENTO BALLET

The Sacramento Ballet is holding auditions for children's roles in the 2008 production of The Nutcracker.  Children must be 6 years old by Dec. 1 to participate. Auditions will be held Wednesday, Sept. 3; Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7. Visit Sacramento Ballet for more information.

CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULT DANCE AUDITIONS FOR THE TOY SHOP

Company D. Ballet Theatre is looking for guest dancers in Solano County (ages 5 through 18) for its 2008 holiday production. CHORAL AUDITIONS FOR BEETHOVEN'S NINTH SYMPHONY

The Academy at All Hallows, formerly The Concerts of All Hallows, announces auditions for vocalists to join with the Academy Orchestra and Chorus and the Music in the Mountains Festival Chorus to perform Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Collegiate and post-collegiate performers are combined with experienced professionals and top community performers under the leadership of Artistic Director, Pete Nowlen. The Solano Chamber Society is asking that anyone interested in performing in Messiah 2008 – singing in the chorus, singing as a soloist, or performing in the orchestra – save these dates:

Soloists (audition): Nov. 4 & 11, Dec. 4, 5, & 7
Orchestra: Dec. 4, 5, & 7

CALL FOR ARTISTS: THE 75TH CROCKER-KINGSLEY: CALIFORNIA'S BIENNIAL

The Kingsley Art Club and the Crocker Art Museum seek entries for California’s premier juried exhibition, The 75th Crocker-Kingsley. The competition is open to painters, sculptors, photographers, printmakers and craft artists who are current California residents. Each artist may submit up to three works for $40. Entries must be received by Nov. 15, 2008, and artists will be notified of inclusion in mid-December. The exhibit will be on view Jan. 10-Feb. 6, 2009. Due to construction at the Crocker, the exhibition will take place at the Library Galleria, located at 828 I Street in Downtown Sacramento.
    Nationally acclaimed artist Michael Bishop will serve as the exhibition's juror. Approximately 60 to 75 works will be chosen for display in the exhibition. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show ($3,000), First Prize ($2,000), Second Prize ($1,000), Third Prize ($500) and Honorable Mention ($250). Visitors will have the chance to nominate their favorite work for the People’s Choice award (no cash prize).

YOUNG ARTISTS COMPETITION

Budding classical musicians and vocalists can compete for cash scholarships of up to $3,000 in the fourth annual Young Artists Competition. The competition is open to pianists, instrumentalists and chamber ensemble members enrolled in grades 4-12 during the 2008-09 school year, and vocalists enrolled in grades 9-12. Entry fee: $50. Deadline for entries:  Nov. 15, 2008. Live auditions to be held Jan. 10-11, 2009. Studio Theatre, Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis.
